Why Service your Fire Safety Equipment?

The Fire Service Act 1981 states that all reasonable measures should be taken to guard against the outbreak of fire in a building. Installing Fire Fighting Equipment in your building, ensures your company is complying with this act.

Once Fire Extinguishers have been fitted and installed, they must be maintained and ready to use in line with Irish Standard 291:2015. Fire Extinguishers should be serviced annually. As part of this service, one third of extinguishers must be test and refilled annually. The objective of this practice, is to ensure that over a 3-year period all Fire Extinguishers throughout a building will be thoroughly inspected, maintained and ready to use.

Fire extinguishers in public buildings are required to be fitted with a pressure release valve. Furthermore, fire extinguishers have a lifespan of no more than 10 years and should be replaced thereafter.
